The University of South Africa (Unisa) has released its second-semester application dates for the 2023 academic year. These dates indicate that students will have less than a month to register to study in the second semester.

Unisa semester 2 applications will open on Monday, 17 April 2023. Prospective students will have just 18 days to submit their applications as the university revealed the application period will be closing on 5 May 2023.

Students submitting semester 2 applications will only be able to apply for selected undergraduate qualifications.

How Unisa Applications Work

Everyone wanting to start a new qualification must apply for admission including first-time Unisa applicants, Unisa students changing their qualification or specialisation, applicants who were accepted to study but did not register and students completing a higher certificate and want to continue their studies at Unisa.

Several steps must be taken before students can apply to study at Unisa. This includes ensuring they meet the qualifying criteria for the course they want to study, gathering all the supporting documents required by the university and ensuring they have a valid email and phone number.

Unisa warned applicants that the due date for uploading supporting documents is the same as the application closing date. They will not accept any documents uploaded after the closing date.

Documents required for Unisa applications include

  • Copy of your school qualifications
  • Copy Tertiary education academic records
  • Copy of your ID document
  • Sworn translations of the documents if they are not in English or Afrikaans.

Applicants must submit the required documents to Unisa. They will then be required to pay an application fee after they receive a student number. The application fee for online applications is R125.
