South Africa boasts 26 public universities, and reports indicate that out of these, 23 universities have received nearly 4.5 million applications for the year 2024. The anticipated enrollment for 2024 is approximately 210,000 students, aligning with the available spaces.
The Department of Higher Education is actively overseeing the approved enrollment plans of the universities. Come April 2024, the Department will distribute enrollment templates for completion by the universities.
Returning students are slated for registration from January 2 to mid-February 2024, while first-time entering students will commence their registration from January 3 to February 15, 2024.
