The Department of Basic Education (DBE) has confirmed that the 2024 Matric exams will kick off on Monday, 21 October 2024 and conclude later that month. This pivotal exam marks the culmination of a student's high school journey.
Matric Results Release Date
The anticipation following the exams is palpable. The Minister of Basic Education, Ms Siviwe Gwarube, will unveil the overall performance on 15 January 2025. Shortly after, on 16 January 2025, the much-awaited matric results will be released.
How to Collect Matric Results
On the morning of 16 January, thousands of matriculants will flock to their respective schools or exam centres to collect their matric results. Alternatively, the results can be accessed online.

Result queries should be submitted for investigation within 30 days after the release of results. Candidates must ensure that names and identity numbers reflect correctly on their statement of results and report any required corrections to the Department before 21 February 2025.
Matric Rechecks and Remarks
Unsatisfied with results or suspecting errors? Matriculants can apply for a remark or recheck. This process involves a re-evaluation of the exam paper for potential mistakes.
Applications for remarks and rechecks close on 21 January 2025.

- Script viewing: R220 (applications close 7 days after remark/recheck results)
Results of remarking will be released from 14 March 2025 and will be available at the school/exam centre where the candidate sat for their 2024 examinations.
Matric Rewrite
For those aiming to improve their results, a matric rewrite is an option. Applications for the May/June 2025 rewrite will open on 16 January and close on 7 February 2025.
2024 Final Matric Exam Timetables
Both the Department of Basic Education (DBE) and the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) have released their official timetables for the 2024 matric exams.
- DBE Matric Exams: Commence on Monday, 21 October 2024.
- IEB Matric Exams: Commence on Tuesday, 10 September 2024 with Life Orientation CAT Part B.
