With the second term having recently resumed for the 2023 school year this past week, the focus has turned to the release of matric exam results for rewrites which took place in May/June of this year.

The Basic of Education Department has recently announced that the results for Senior Certificate and National Senior Certificate will be released on 7 August 2023.

2023 Matric Exam Rewrites

It is worth noting that the 2023 May/June also had exam rewrite participants for part of the department’s second chance matric programme. The DBE confirmed that 279 000 learners registered for the programme.

The second chance matric programme is intended for learners who previously could not achieve the desired results during their first attempt at a Senior Certificate and National Senior Certificate exam in 2022.

The programme has the added benefit of having no age restrictions for those who want to pass their matric, whether it is for the Senior Certificate or National Senior Certificate.

The programme also makes it easier to prepare thoroughly by providing learning and teaching support materials (LTSMs) based on diagnostic data, ensuring that the materials concentrate on typical areas of weak performance originating from prior exams.

Collecting Your Matric Rewrite Results

The statement of results can be collected at the exam centre or schools where the candidate wrote their examinations. Candidates who would like to view their results online, they will need to do the following:

  1. Visit the Education Department website
  2. Enter your examination number
  3. Enter other personal details
  4. Click ‘search’
  5. Your results will appear on the screen

Candidates who are not satisfied with their matric rewrite results can ask to have their exam scripts rechecked and remarked by the department. However, it is worth considering that this option will come at a cost of R110 per subject, while having an exam script rechecked R27 per subject.
