Sassa distributes over 18 million permanent grant payments, supporting a wide range of beneficiaries. Minister Godongwana confirmed that the following grants will increase:

  • Older Persons (Old Age) Grant: Increasing from R2,185 to R2,315 (R130 increase).

When Will the Sassa Grant Increases Take Effect?

The Sassa grant increases 2025 will be implemented in April 2025. While some grants may see smaller adjustments in October to account for inflation, the primary increases will occur in April.

These increases will positively impact approximately 28 million beneficiaries across South Africa. Minister Godongwana emphasized that these adjustments reflect the government's commitment to alleviating poverty and promoting equality.

SRD Grant Extended

The Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant, previously scheduled to end in March 2025, has been extended for another year, until March 2026. This extension provides continued support to unemployed individuals.

The COVID19 Social Relief of Distress (SRD), in its current form, will be extended by a year to end March 2026. R35.2 billion is allocated for this purpose.

The Minister also indicated that the SRD grant will be used as a foundation for a more sustainable income support system for the unemployed.

Approximately 28 million South Africans will benefit from these increases.
