Applications for Phase 5 of the Basic Education Employment Initiative (BEEI) are now closed. The Department of Basic Education (DBE) confirmed that thousands of youth applied for positions in the latest phase of the programme.
Several school assistant positions are available during Phase 5. These include reading champions, reading assistants, e-cadres/ICT assistants, classroom assistants (CSAs), handypersons, sports and enrichment assistants, laboratory assistants, and workshop assistants.
Interviews Start on 19 May 2025
The DBE has announced that shortlisted candidates will begin receiving interview invitations from 19 May 2025. Interviews and contracting will take place between 19 May and 26 May 2025.
Applicants are urged to keep their phones switched on and accessible. The contact number used during the application process must remain active throughout this period.
Keep an eye on your phone. Shortlisted individuals will receive an SMS from their school or the Provincial Education Department (PED) inviting them for an interview. SMS notifications will be sent between 19 and 26 May 2025.
Shortlisted applicants will need to bring several important documents to their interview.

It is worth noting that matric is not a requirement for some assistant roles.
This government programme has already created more than one million temporary jobs. Phase 5 will contribute an additional 200,000 job opportunities for South African youth.
Successful candidates will earn a monthly stipend of R4,000 for six months, along with R30 for data. Work placements are set to begin on 2 June 2025.
