The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) offers financial support to eligible students enrolled in approved programmes at universities and TVET colleges. This assistance covers tuition and registration costs and includes allowances for meals, accommodation, and study materials.

What Does a Finalised NSFAS Appeal Mean?

While thousands of students apply for NSFAS funding each year, not every application is successful on the first attempt.

Students whose applications are declined have a 30-day window to lodge an appeal. This process involves submitting relevant supporting documents to explain or correct the reasons behind the initial rejection.

Once an appeal has been submitted, applicants are encouraged to regularly check their status for updates on the outcome.

NSFAS has clarified that when an appeal is marked as “finalised,” it means the review process is complete, and a conclusive decision has been made regarding the funding application based on the submitted information.

After an appeal reaches the “finalised” stage, students will be informed of the result—whether their funding request has been approved or denied.

It’s important to remember that the outcome of appeals also depends on the availability of funds within the scheme.
