The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) provides NSFAS bursaries to students who come from poor and working class backgrounds. Here we'll be giving you the NSFAS requirements for Unisa students.
Seeing that NSFAS funds students who attend South Africa's public higher education institutions, Unisa students are then eligible to receive NSFAS funding.
Eligibility For Unisa Bursary Funding
The criteria for Unisa students are as follows:
- Be a first year or returning student in the year for which the bursary is
- Able-bodied students must have a household income that comes to R350 000 or less per year
- Students living with disabilities must have a household income that comes to R600 000 or less per year
- Must be a South African citizen or permanent resident
- Studying towards your first undergraduate qualification
Is There A NSFAS Age Limit?
It's also good to know that NSFAS does not have an age limit.
If you're a Sassa grant beneficiary, you will immediately qualify for funding. This does not include the R350 grant.
NSFAS does not cover postgraduate courses, second qualifications, short courses and part-time courses.
A NSFAS bursary will not only cover your tuition but will also pay for your registration, accommodation, transport, meals, books, learning materials and other student living costs.
