Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe will on 03 June 2011, deliver a keynote address at the Solomon Mahlangu Freedom Collage Trust (SOMAFCO)'s Beacon of Excellence Awards ceremony to be held in Kempton Park Johannesburg.

The programme was launched in September of 2010 and since then the Trust has, through its rigorous Prize Initiative process, identified Beacons of Excellence in communities in South Africa that are advancing education through:

    • Early Childhood Development,
    • School Health and Nutrition, and
    • Vocational and Entrepreneurship training.

The programme's principal objective is to address and strengthen grassroots initiatives by sustaining and empowering those that are currently advancing social change with a potential to remain a large part of the development of South Africa.

The ceremony will also afford government and business an opportunity to come to come together and celebrate and encourage collaboration and development of youth in the space of education.

    • Date: 03 June 2011
    • Time: 17h00 (members of the media to arrive at 16h30)
