Matric students with good academic records are encouraged to apply for the 2012 bursaries that have been made available through Agang Sechaba, a community development initiative. The bursaries are exclusive to students who are unable to cover the cost of a tertiary education.

Agang Sechaba is a women’s initiative which was formed by professional women who are passionate about community development. It is aimed at improving the lives of the children and women in the South African Communities. The organisation is managed by women who come from diverse professional backgrounds and are passionate about making things happen.

As a result of this passion and quest to give back, a trust was registered through which charitable deeds and empowerment of unemployed women and child headed households would be realised.

Agang Sechaba has successfully managed to put 15 kids through the Edutech Master Learner (EML) Development Programme, (an educational program that assists kids from grade 10, 11, & 12 with study skills), is currently paying for 5 kids at tertiary (2 at UJ, 1 at Wits, 1 at UCT and another at College Campus). Some of the kids who are now at tertiary level, for whom Agang Sechaba is paying, came from EML educational programme.

“It is Agang Sechaba’s conviction that through education the cycle of poverty can be broken’ says Nomsa Ntshingila, a Trustee of the organisation.

To alleviate illiteracy in communities Agang Sechaba has included specific conditions for prospective bursars. One of the bursary conditions is an obligation to contribute to the education of one child from an underprivileged family.

Students who have been accepted by approved tertiary institutions can submit their bursary application to Agang Sechaba on info@agangsechaba.com where each individual application will be thoroughly assessed before approval.

Agang Sechaba conducts its work in child-headed homes, orphanages and among unemployed women. Their services include sponsoring children’s education, sponsoring soup kitchens, ensuring the children it sponsors are clothed, supporting/initiating sustainable Women Community Projects and also partners with other community organizations based on a synergy of strategy, technical and chemistry fit.

Some of Agang Sechaba’s current projects include:

    • Kwa Thema (Soup Kitchen),
    • Kwa Thema Titimang Sechaba Project,
    • Xmas Project (Olivenhout, Tlhokomelo-Home Orlando, Kwa-Thema),
    • The Winter Project (Blankets),
    • The Educational Project (Issuing of bursaries to financially deserving individuals with good academic records),
    • Adopt a child/family Project and
    • Miriam Makeba Home for Girls.
