Gauteng learners get down to business

A group of male Grade 11 and 12 learners had a rare opportunity to go behind the scenes at industry-leading, established company and witness - first-hand - what constitutes a professional, credible business operation.

Students from Alexandra High School and Wendywood High School recently visited the Sandton-based head office of Accsys, a member of the Business Connexion Group and a national supplier of people management solutions within HR, payroll administration, time & attendance and access control.

The visit formed part of Accsys’ Boys in Business Day initiative, an annual event that aligns with the principles of the Cell C Bring a Girl Child to Work Day.

Learners were presented with a complete overview of the company, inclusive of all areas of operation – from technical to development to support, as well as administration and sales.

Accsys executives and staff were available to answer questions, explain what their roles and responsibilities are, as well as the significance of their respective division/ department in terms of the company as a whole. A number of break away and plenary sessions took place throughout the day.

“We have established the Boys in Business Day as a regular date on our calendar. We believe it has value in helping learners with information about career opportunities, about the continued impact of technology in the workplace and how to effectively manage resources,” says Teryl Schroenn, CEO, Accsys.

Accsys has a solid, established track record of ongoing contribution towards skills development and effective recruitment.

Its ongoing program also involves strengthening communication and interaction between education institutions and corporate South Africa.

“Our focus is on people development. The current economic climate and pressure on job-seekers is such that businesses have to get more involved in creating opportunities for those entering markets. This includes training, internships, experiential training and much more,” adds Schroenn.

Learners from both schools have expressed their enthusiasm for the day and have also acknowledged the benefit they gain from exposure to the realities of a modern, progressive and successfully run company.
