Get the right start with respectable matric results
Tue, 20 Sep 2011 09:14

While some matric pupils may already have their study timetables in place for their final examinations, others may be picturing the free time theyll be enjoying as a result of not having to go to school. Lawrence Wordon, managing director of leading workforce management & productivity solutions company, Kelly advises Grade 12 students against taking their end-of-year results too lightly.
It is worthwhile to note that many employers seek Candidates with some form of tertiary qualification. And while the looming year-end examinations are what most grade 12 pupils will have in their sights, it is perhaps a good idea for matrics to look beyond this point and consider what educational path they plan to follow after theyve left school, recommends Wordon.
It is understandable that after 12 years of school, many find it difficult to maintain the motivation required to end their scholastic careers positively. With that said, I urge those with dreams of a successful career to find the inspiration they need to work hard and get good marks. Furthering ones studies and earning a recognised qualification can be advantageous for matrics to advance their chances of building a successful career, adds Wordon.
By undertaking the simple strategies that follow, matrics can take their year-end results to the next level, thereby ensuring theyll get into university or college:
Study in shorter and more frequent periods: Research suggests that brief bursts of intense concentration are more effective than lengthy learning sessions Set aside guilt free days of rest: Recharge your batteries and refresh your mind for more effective study sessions
Respect your emotions: Honour the fact that it is impossible to study when experiencing emotions such as anger. Work through your feelings and get back to the grindstone when your mind is better prepared to learn
Prepare your study space: Make sure that your study zone facilitates instead of hinders your levels of productivity
Set the scene for a successful future by studying hard today. Ensure you end your scholastic career on a high note so you can get the tertiary qualifications you need to begin your working career on a positive footing.
