KZN matric learners urged to go back to school

With 69 days before the start of matric examinations, KwaZulu-Natal Education MEC Senzo Mchunu has urged all Grade 12 learners to go back to school and start preparing for the exams.

The call follows a few days without any proper and structured teaching and learning in most of the schools across the province as a result of last week’s public service strike.

“A number of learners across the province did not achieve satisfactorily in the common tests for the 1st and 2nd quarters of this year and any further loss of learning time can only worsen the already seemingly dire situation,” Mchunu said.

In preparation for the trial examination to start in September, Mchunu urged Grade 12 learners to use the remaining time profitably by holding group discussions, exchange notes on all subjects, particularly the critical ones and to generally assist one another.

“We want all of them to pass at the end of the year and urge all principals to keep schools open and not close them so as to allow learners access to the premises for this purpose.” he said.

Mchunu further urged all School Governing Bodies to support learners while at the schools by ensuring order and provide guidance while studying is underway.

“It is our firm belief that such commitment on the side of the learners would go a long way in preparing them for matric exams at the end of the year.” BuaNews
