In its 39th year, the 2012 JSE/Liberty Investment Challenge commences in March with registrations now open. The Investment Challenge runs annually from March to September and all South African high school learners and university students are eligible to enter.

Through a virtual portfolio of R1 million in a risk free and controlled environment, this educational initiative provides investment education to learners and students, while at the same time promoting the importance of saving through long-term investments at an early stage in life.

“The 2011 JSE/Liberty Investment Challenge was a great success. We encourage the youth of South Africa to participate in this year’s Investment Challenge as it is a great opportunity to broaden their financial knowledge and acquire skills which will see them being financially aware adults,” says Senior Investment Challenge Co-ordinator, Idris Seedat.

All winning teams of the JSE/Liberty Investment Challenge from around SA will receive an all-expenses paid for trip to Johannesburg for the glamorous awards ceremony which is held at the JSE every year.

Jade Maletsky, Head of Brand & Marketing for Liberty Retail SA says: “We are proud to be sponsoring the JSE/Liberty Investment Challenge for the 11th year in a row. Learning about the power of saving and the underlying concept of compound interest, is the key to financial wealth and independence. Learners and students participating in this Investment Challenge, learn exactly this.”

Entrants will need to select one or more risk portfolios that they wish to take part in. The portfolio options are Income (low risk); Equity Growth (moderate risk) and Speculator (high risk). Teams enter with four members for scholars and two to four members for university students. Throughout the Investment Challenge, the winning team for the month in each portfolio will win R500 for each member, R500 for their school as well as another R500 for their teacher.

After months of hard work, five prizes amounting to R60 000 per portfolio will be awarded to the overall winners in each portfolio. Last year’s winning university students headed off on an all expenses paid overseas trip to the Mauritius Stock Exchange.

“We encourage all high school learners and university students to get their game on and take part in the investment challenge, which promises to be the best year yet,” says Julian Dallamore, Brand Manager for Liberty Retail SA.

Registrations for the 2012 intake are now open. To find out more visit the JSE/Liberty Investment Challenge and the new interactive mobisite or contact the Investment Challenge Co-ordinators on 011 – 520 7116/ 7344/ 7168.
