    Fire damages CCMA power cables

The CCMA national office experienced a fire in its building in Harrison Street, Johannesburg, on Wednesday, 31 October 2007.

The fire damaged all the power cables in the building, the Department of Labour has announced. CCMA Director Nerine Kahn said, "the effect is that the national office and its call centre are not operational.

More importantly, the CCMA regional offices are not able to process cases electronically nor receive emails."

Kahn added that the KwaZulu-Natal and Western Cape offices have limited electronic facilities, but all regional offices are operational and continue to receive case referrals and conduct scheduled hearings.

"However, there is a potential for delays in some areas and we request the public to accommodate these," cautioned Kahn.

The CCMA will issue a further media release once all services return to normality.
