A leading South Africa head-hunting firm has been tasked to search for a highly skilled environmental ‘activist’ to take up the position of Executive Director for Greenpeace in Africa.

Debbie Goodman-Bhyat, Managing Director of Jack Hammer Executive Headhunters says the position which has been created in the wake of Greenpeace’s further initiatives in Africa presents a fantastic opportunity to drive environmental and social change in Africa.

She says Greenpeace is one of the world’s most credible voices on environmental issues and one of the most successful in effecting change across the globe.

“The appointee will have to oversee operations in South Africa, the Democratic Republic of Congo and in a West African country.

“We are looking for someone with a deep understanding of African and global politics and the ability to engage effectively with people in positions of commercial, environmental and political power. They also need to have a successful track record of inspirational leadership at executive level together with experience in developing strategic plans and long term financial and business policies.”

She says the response to the search has been excellent.

“Most of the applicants have tertiary degrees, many with masters and doctorates in science and the social sciences, and are extremely keen on the opportunity to ‘give back’ to society.”

She says the salary package, which has not been revealed, is commensurate with packages for international NGO’s.

“The opportunity to be part of a global activist organisation at this important time of global pressures and climate change is very exciting,” she said.
