    Workplace experience grant assists FET learners

    The W&RSeta has launched a project to ensure FET College learners gain valuable work experience before finishing their formal studies in the wholesale and retail sector. Western Cape MEC Alan Winde emphasised that without work, skills mean nothing and that unless there was economic growth, poverty would remain.

    There is evidence that South Africa's growing skills shortage is increasing. Skills are needed for the economy to grow. If one looks at the new NCV courses that were registered by the Department of Education it is a concern that the focus is not on skills.

    The Equal Education campaign opened their third school library at the Masiyile High School in Khayelitsha. Only 8% of SA schools have libraries and the lack of library facilities has been shown to hamper learner performance at school.

All of the delegates who started the 4-month-long course completed it and nearly achieved the certificate with distinction.
