Approximately 4 000 learners will be exposed to the world of construction during the week of 8 – 12 September 2008 at the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre in Newtown, Johannesburg.

The Construction industry will display many of the career paths that the industry offers.

Youth in Construction is an initiative by the Construction Industry Development Board (cidb), the SA Federation of Civil Engineering Contractors (SAFCEC), the SA Institution of Civil Engineering (SAICE), the Gauteng Master Builders Association (GMBA).

The FET Colleges are also part of the team in support of the National Construction Week of the Department of Public Works to give young people in Gauteng the opportunity to experience a wide range of exciting opportunities in construction.

The week focuses on the importance of the construction industry as a national asset and its critical link to skills development, infrastructure and job creation and service delivery.

Several role players in the industry have already committed time and effort to this event to ensure that learners will experience the excitement and diversity the industry has to offer, as the construction industry literally has a place for everyone.
