eDegree for ABET training at Basil Read
Wed, 22 Nov 2006 17:00
As part of a pilot project, construction company, Basil Read, has appointed training provider, eDegree, to undertake the ABET training of 15 employees, with a view to rolling the training out nationally in the near future.
At the plant management awareness sessions, Basil Read management unanimously embraced this training initiative as a positive investment in the future and upskilling of their employees.
A staff contingent of about 40 employees attended the awareness sessions, which entailed a very inspiring presentation by Mr. Lucky Melato, ABET project manager.
Said Gregory Martin, manager of education and training at eDegree: Much interest was shown and it was quite apparent that all are enthusiastic to learn and develop their skills further as ABET training equips learners with the necessary communications, numeracy and life skills to be competent in the work place, participate in their communities and improve the quality of their lives.
The course material focuses on outcomes for each learner and the programmes are flexible, said Martin.
The programme is ideally suited to the learner who has had no formal primary or secondary education, but will also improve the skills of those who have been out of the educational environment for some time and need to brush up on their skills before progressing to learnerships or Further Education and Training (FET) courses.
The next step of the project is to identify the learners for the initial placement assessments, and the formulation of the group. The actual training will commence early in the New Year.
