This tendency confirms extensive research in other countries that found that children perform better the longer they are homeschooled, says Bouwe van der Eems, a trustee of the Pestalozzi Trust. The Pestalozzi Trust has been providing legal protection for thousands of homeschooling families for over twelve years.

Executive Dean of the Faculty of Education at the University of Johannesburg, Professor Sarah Gravett, says while experts expected an improvement, they did not expect to see such a significant jump.

Wed, 15 Dec 2010The Labour Minister has announced that major reforms to the country's labour laws will be published in draft form on Friday 17th December. The Minister characterised the changes to the Basic Conditions of Employment Act, Labour Relations Act, and other labour laws as 'far reaching'. Tha national government has been attempting to clamp down on labour brokers and other atypical employment practices.

With the deadline for Zimbabwean nationals to regularise their stay in South Africa fast approaching, Home Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma has once again stressed that the 31 December cut-off date would not be extended. Those still waiting for their passports from the Zimbabwean government are urged to submit their applications with their identity documents or birth certificates so that they can be recorded in the system before the deadline.

The public have been warned by the Gauteng Health and Social Development to take all necessary precautions before travelling to malaria endemic areas, such as the Kruger National Park, Tanzania, Mozambique,Kenya,and Somalia. Precautions include taking medication, and avoiding bites by the use of candles, coils, sprays, and mosquito netting over beds.
