    Celebrating Women of Substance...

"One is not born a woman, one becomes one."

-- Simone de Beauvoir, French author, The Second Sex --

"Toughness doesn't have to come in a pinstripe suit."

-- Dianne Feinstein, politician [on women's role in government] ---

"How important it is for us to recognize and celebrate our heroes and she-roes!."

-- Maya Angelou, African American poet ---

The past fifty years has seen woman becoming more and more liberated.

We are living through an age where woman are the most visible they have ever been in history.

Great women leaders, artists, scientists, and other professional women have inspired other women to overcome social obstacles.

There were three major changes in women's lives which began to have an influence on their attitudes.

First a small minority gained access to higher education.

Secondly was greater control by women over their own bodies and the third major change was women's greater financial and social independence.

My Mum turns 50 today (happy birthday Mum); she has lived through these liberating years. And instead of a career she has chosen to follow her passion... she is a full time Mum.

My Mum stopped working when I was about 10 years old so she could do more work in her community and spend time teaching her girls what it is to be a woman.

I am blessed she made this choice. Isn't it great that woman today have more choices?

We can choose whether we want to marry or not, have a family or not, have a career or not; we can choose to be and do anything we want.

For me, it is important that we just remember that we cannot do everything. The key word is choice.

I have learnt that saying YES to everything doesn't get me true quality of life results (this might not be true for you... I just know how true it is for me).

I have learnt that I sometimes have to make some tough choices.

I have have learnt for women of substance. Let's celebrate the magnificent woman we know ad admire today

    ...

    Who are YOU celebrating?

Your "Key Steps" Coaching for the week ahead:

How can you begin to cultivate the qualities you see in them... because you have them too? Remember that life is a mirror, you can only see what you first put out there in the first place.
