An international company, Teleperformance, is to set up two contact centres in Cape Town, which are expected to create 2000 jobs by 2012.

Teleperformance, a leading provider of outsourced contact centre services is to set up the first site in Cape Town’s Central Business District. The company expects the site to grow throughout 2010 to a potential of more than 1 000 seats.

The second centre, with a planned capacity of up to 2 000 seats, is anticipated to be located in the southern suburbs, and to come on stream in 2011.

“We have chosen to further expand our facilities in South Africa as in our opinion it has the potential to become one of the fastest growing BPO destinations,” said Jeff Smith, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chairman of Teleperformance UK. .

“There is a real pool of talent that fits extremely well with our business needs in terms of both skill and culture. South Africans have a justifiable reputation for their strong empathy with UK callers and for their excellent customer service skills.”

Cape Town’s Deputy Mayor, Ian Neilson, who was in London to help facilitate the deal, welcomed the move saying it signalled investor confidence in Cape Town.

“Cape Town needs more investment like this and the city will do whatever it can to enable inward investment that will lead to more job creation for Cape Town’s residents.”

Speaking from London, Mansoor Mohamed, the Executive Director for Economic, Social Development and Tourism said the City of Cape Town had a strategy of infrastructure led economic growth and development.

He said the objective of this strategy was to make Cape Town a globally competitive business and leisure destination, which will attract further investment and grow the economy.

Cape Town has excellent capabilities in the call centre industry, including competitive real estate prices and a good choice of human resources.
