FTI restructures project management portfolio
Thu, 12 Jan 2012 14:14

The brand new courses offered by Faculty Training Institute include the recently launched Certificate Programme in Project Management Practice, FTI’s Applied Project Management Programme as well as a range of focused, intensive short courses.
FTI’s new portfolio of courses encompasses the modern developments in the field of project management. It also addresses project management as an evolving discipline whereby the next generation of project management will require leadership rather than management.
FTI has developed a wider range of project management courses in response to the shifts in traditional project management. Increasingly, professionals are required to work across multiple, complex projects and are faced with ever-increasing pressures of delivering projects on time and within budget. “Whilst traditionally this has always been the role of the Project Manager, the profession of project management is moving into the mainstream of business and people who are not necessarily project managers require project management as a core skill to add business value, says Steve Erlank, MD of FTI.
“In today’s complex knowledge-based economy; which is an age of rapid change and uncertainty, project management professionals can also expect to witness upheavals during the life of their most significant projects”, says Erlank. “FTI’s new programmes encompass the modern model of project management, whereby the major value contribution from project management professionals, above meeting cost and time frames on projects, will be their ability to think out-of-the box, agility and project leadership,” continues Erlank.
FTI’s recently launched Certificate Programme in Project Management Practice, which carries a PDU rating of 56, is gaining favour with its target audience. The Certificate Programme in Project Management Practice has been designed with the intent to offer credits towards the National Certificate information and is an essential building block for delegates on the path to becoming professional project managers.
The four-month programme is primarily aimed at newly appointed or aspirant project managers and project co-ordinators who want to develop a solid grounding in the essential skills of project management and is ideal for project managers that already have some experience and wish to formalise their project management knowledge.
FTI has announced that its Applied Project Management Programme will be launched towards mid 2012. This 3-month part-time programme is primarily aimed at practicing project managers and project-coordinators who want to formalise and build on their foundation of project management skills.
Whilst the programme is suited to recently qualified delegates who have completed FTI’s Certificate Programme in Project Management Practice, and have at least six months of work experience on projects fulfilling the role of the project manager or project coordinator, other qualifications or recognition of prior learning may be considered sufficient for entry in to the programme. The Applied Project Management Programme emphasises work place assignments and will benefit delegates who have been involved in the creation of project charters and project management plans.
FTI’s consulting arm, FTI Professional Services Division (FTIPSD) will support FTI’s project management programmes launching in 2012. FTIPSD will offer a range of services that include coaching and mentoring services, Professional Development Seminars, Methodology Support competency assessment.
The Certificate Programme in Project Management Practice commences on 9 February 2012 in Cape Town and 16 February 2012 in Johannesburg.
