Millions of individuals qualify for the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant payments and submit applications for the R370 grant each month. The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has provided instructions on how beneficiaries can perform a Sassa status check and find out their R370 grant payment date.
How to Do a Sassa SRD Status Check
- Visit the Sassa SRD Status Website: Navigate to the SRD status check section on the official Sassa website.
- Enter Your Details: Provide your ID number and the cell phone number used during your grant application submission.
- Check Progress: Monitor the progress of your grant application.
- Security Verification: For security purposes, you will receive a One-Time Pin (OTP). Enter the OTP to view your SRD grant payment status and payment date.
What If You Don’t Have an SRD Grant Payment Date?
Approved SRD grant beneficiaries without a payment date will not receive their R370 grant. This issue typically arises from incorrect or incomplete information.
Common Issues
- Missing Banking Details: Ensure you provide bank account details on the Sassa website.
- Postbank Accounts: Sassa no longer opens Postbank accounts. Update your account with new banking details.
- Cash Send/Mobile Money: Incorrect ID or cellphone numbers can delay payments. Consider using alternative banking options.
If these issues do not apply to you, contact the Sassa Customer Care Call Centre at 0800 60 10 11.
How Sassa Verifies SRD Grant Applications
Sassa conducts thorough checks on all SRD grant applications. To qualify, you must be a South African citizen, permanent resident, or holder of a special permit.
Your identity, residency, and financial status are verified, including cross-checks with Home Affairs, SARS, UIF, and NSFAS. Additionally, your ID and mobile number are screened for fraud.
Appealing a Rejected Application
If your application is denied, you can appeal to the Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals (ITSAA). Submit a separate appeal for each rejected month.
The ITSAA typically resolves appeals within 60 to 90 days. While its decision is final, you may request a judicial review within 180 days.
Sassa’s Status Check Warning
Sassa has warned SRD grant applicants against using fake websites that promote the SRD status check service. These sites collect personal information, putting users at risk of fraud.
Individuals are encouraged to use official Sassa websites, which end in .gov.za, to conduct SRD grant status checks.
