SASSA Confirms R10 Increase in Social Grants from October 2025
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has confirmed that all social grant beneficiaries will receive a R10 increase in their monthly payments starting in October 2025. This adjustment follows the 2025/2026 National Budget tabled by Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana earlier this year.
New SASSA Grant Amounts
- Old Age Grant: increasing from R2,310 to R2,320
- Old Age Grant (over 75 years): increasing from R2,330 to R2,340
- War Veterans Grant: increasing from R2,330 to R2,340
- Disability Grant: increasing from R2,310 to R2,320
- Care Dependency Grant: increasing from R2,310 to R2,320
SASSA CEO Themba Matlou welcomed the increase and highlighted the agency’s role as a social safety net. "This reaffirms government's commitment to protecting the most vulnerable in society, easing financial burden and cushioning them against economic hardships," said Matlou.
He also reassured beneficiaries that October payments will be made on time and without interruption.
SASSA October 2025 Payment Dates
- Old Age Grants – 2 October 2025
- Disability Grants – 3 October 2025
- Children’s Grants – 6 October 2025
SASSA cautioned beneficiaries against misleading information circulating online. Fake news articles have claimed that larger increases are coming, but these are false. The official announcement was made through SASSA’s verified X (Twitter) account and can be verified online.
This increase, while modest, is part of government’s continued efforts to provide financial relief and support to millions of South Africans who depend on social grants every month.
