The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) recently found that 59.2% of rejected Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grant Applicants did not receive a reason explaining why their applications were rejected.
This issue was related to the first cycle of SRD grant payments. This led SASSA to introduce measures to ensure that all SRD grant applicants are provided with reasons why their applications were rejected.
This will allow applicants to have their grant applications reconsidered and hopefully give them access to crucial financial relief. This, as SASSA found that above 93% of grant recipients used their money to purchase food.
One of the reasons given to unsuccessful grant applicants is referred or ‘referred_safps’. This means that you have been registered as a perpetrator of fraud by the South African Fraud Prevention Services (SAFPS).
The reasoning for being registered is because your ID number has been used to commit fraud or is linked to high risk activities.
SASSA is calling on all applicants who have appealed this rejection status to email them at [email protected] to provide proof that you have cleared the problem.
