The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) is encouraging social grant beneficiaries to use its e-Life Certification self-service portal to complete their life certification quickly and conveniently.

The agency confirmed that earlier technical issues affecting access to the platform have now been resolved. These disruptions were linked to system interfaces with other government departments.

SASSA has apologised for the inconvenience and is urging beneficiaries with access to digital tools to complete the process online rather than visiting local offices.

What Is e-Life Certification?

e-Life Certification is an online verification system available through the SASSA Online Services Portal. It allows beneficiaries to confirm their identity and eligibility remotely.

The system uses secure biometric verification through an electronic Know Your Client (KYC) process to ensure that grants are paid to the correct individuals.

Why Life Certification Is Important

Life certification is a legal requirement under South Africa’s Social Assistance Act. It ensures that grant recipients are still eligible and helps prevent fraud.

By completing this process, SASSA can confirm that beneficiaries are alive and that public funds are distributed correctly.

Benefits Of Using The Online Portal

Using the e-Life Certification platform offers several advantages:

- Complete the process from home
- Save on travel costs
- Avoid long queues at SASSA offices
- Faster processing times
- Improved security through biometric verification

Important Reminder For Beneficiaries

SASSA has reminded beneficiaries that those selected for e-Life Certification must complete the process within the specified timeframe.

Failure to comply may result in payment delays or the suspension of grants, as non-compliance could be interpreted as a change in eligibility status.

Beneficiaries are also encouraged to complete life certification annually, even if not immediately prompted.

Reporting Fraud And Ensuring Fair Access

SASSA reiterated its commitment to ensuring that social grants reach the right people at the right time. Members of the public are encouraged to report suspected fraud anonymously through official SASSA channels.

By using digital services like the e-Life Certification portal, beneficiaries can enjoy faster, safer and more efficient access to their grants.
