The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) distributes more than 18 million permanent social grants monthly. The beneficiaries of Sassa’s permanent grants are issued with a Sassa Gold Card, which allows them to access their money and make transactions.
Sassa grant beneficiaries whose gold cards are expiring can collect a new card at a South African Post Office (SAPO) branch. Beneficiaries will be assisted at post office branches around the country.
To collect a new Sassa gold card, you will be required to have your Identity Document (ID). Additionally, you will need your expiring Sassa gold card.
Designated days have been set allowing beneficiaries of different grants to collect their new gold card on different days at a post office branch.
Mondays and Tuesdays have been dedicated to the issuance of new gold cards to beneficiaries of the Older Persons and Disability Grants.
If you are a beneficiary of Sassa Child Support grants, you will be able to collect their new Sassa gold cards from Wednesdays to Saturdays.
You must collect your new Sassa gold card. If you are unable to collect your new card, a Sassa-appointed procurator may collect it on your behalf.
Sassa explained that new gold cars will only be issued at post office branches to the person in whose name the expiring card has been issued or to those who have been registered at Sassa as procurators.
Grant recipients will be assisted during the Post Office’s operating hours on weekdays and Saturdays. New gold cards will not be issued on Sundays as the Post Office is closed.
