As a new academic year begins, thousands of students will be eligible for bursaries provided by the National Student Financial Aid Scheme. The scheme has announced several changes which will have an impact on funding for students.


As the new academic year begins, thousands of students will be receiving National Student Financial Aid Scheme allowance payments. The financial aid scheme wants to ensure funded students receive their money securely.   

 


The National Student Financial Aid Scheme has announced that it plans to make improvements aimed at making the 2023 academic year run smoothly in the coming months. This is part of the bursary scheme’s plan to address issues that usually rise during this time of year.

With the 2023 academic year so close, the Department of Higher Education and the National Student Financial Aid Scheme are preparing for another year. Thousands of students each year are funded through Nsfas bursaries.


The National Student Financial Aid Scheme, what we call Nsfas, has disbursed millions of bursaries since it's inception to millions of South Africans who come from poor and working class backrgrounds. They are now being urged to do more.


The National Student Financial Aid Scheme, or NSFAS, has officially closed their doors, for now. Applications do however remain open so here's where and how to apply.


There has been a growing demand for student accommodation in public universities and Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Colleges. A new system is to be implemented to meet this demand.

 


Problems with unfavourable living conditions in student accommodation for Nsfas funded students have been a long-standing issue. However recent engagements with Nsfas and stake holder suggest that the bursary scheme has a plan in hand to resolve the issue. 


Nsfas has reportedly spent over R1 billion on student accommodation, but many students have been living in unfavourable housing conditions that are taking forever to be resolved and improved. The government bursary scheme now plans on correcting a few issues, including how the money is to be spent.


Although the country’s largest government fund bursary scheme has grown considerably over the years, the arrival of the Covid-19 pandemic and its impact on the tertiary education sector disrupted the National Student Financial Aid’s ability to fund students.
 


The National Student Financial Aid Scheme has announced a new allocation of money to ensure students are paid their allowances at the beginning of the 2023 academic year. This was revealed in a stakeholder meeting to ensure students are not negatively affected by proposed guidelines.

 


Nsfas has recently celebrated a milestone achievement in providing financial aid to South Africa's students. The Minister of Higher Education reflected on the various areas of growth Nsfas has experienced over the years. 


The National Student Financial Aid Scheme has rejected several student funding applications. However, the higher education department has stated that there are justifiable reasons for rejecting this cohort of applicants. 


Thousands of student rely on bursaries from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme. These bursaries allow them to obtain tertiary education qualifications without having to worry about the high cost of tuition.


The National Student Financial Aid Scheme believes that the investigation into possible maladministration and corruption will yield positive results and could see millions of rands returned to the fund.


Nsfas is celebrating a major milestone, and is taking the time to look back on its growth since the financial aid scheme was first introduced.


There is a growing demand for student accommodation in institutions of higher learning. The good news is, there are plans in the pipeline to help deal with the demand.

 


The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) applications window is currently open and is set to close on 31 January 2023. NSFAS applications can be complicated which begs the question, will they allow leeway and accept late applications?


With the appointment of the new board at the National Student Financial Aid Scheme, what's more commonly known as Nsfas, came many new changes. One of these being that Nsfas wallet is being decommissioned.
