Thousands of parents submitted admission applications for Western Cape schools in 2025. However, the department has opened the late application period to ensure learners whose parents didn't apply for placement can still do so.

Preparations and arrangements for the 2025 school year are currently underway. The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has commenced accepting school enrollment applications for Grade 1 and 8 only.

Missing a school application deadline in the Western Cape limits the schools your child can secure placement at. However, the education department is obligated to ensure your child has a place at a school regardless of whether or not you missed the deadline.

The school admission application period has concluded in the Western Cape. Parents in the province have been urged to update their login credentials to ensure they can see which school their children will attend in the coming days.

Not knowing which school your child will be attending the following year can cause great stress and anxiety for parents around the country. One provincial education department has explained why this week is crucial in alleviating the anxiety of parents.

Parents in the Western Cape have faced numerous challenges when trying to enrol their children in schools in the province. This is especially true when the enrollment requires the use of the provinces’ online admissions system.

In two months during 2021, the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) admissions website recorded 408 672 applications by 149 633 registered users demonstrating the amount of parents applying for the placement of their children in the province's schools.

The deadline to register children for grade 1 and grade 8 in the Western Cape has closed, however, this does not necessarily mean your child will not have a desk in a classroom next year.
