This Mentorship Development Programme It is designed to assist companies to establish mentorship programmes in their companies which support their skills development initiatives and programmes. The role of work based mentors is key in equipping learners on learnerships, internships and work readiness programme to develop the skills required to access the job market and attain permanent employment. This programme has two pivotal components namely the training of mentors and coaches but also on site support from Faranani to assist mentors with implementation and to assist the business with the development of their mentorship strategy, policy and action plan as well as procedures for implementing mentorship and on the job training sessions.
Phase 1: Mentoring and coaching course – 3 days
The purpose of this training is to develop a passion, interest and aptitude for being a mentor. It is a leadership course and challenges leaders in terms of their leadership styles and equips them with the key leadership skills required to be a mentor. During this journey attention will be given to participants’ commitment and willingness to become mentors, the return on investment for them, the mentees, the company and the industry. The approach is one of experiential learning integrated with an action learning methodology. In addition mentors and coaches will complete the accredited programme and compile a portfolio of evidence of conducting coaching and on the job training in the workplace
It will be accredited against the following unit standards:
US 123398 Facilitate the transfer and application of learning in the workplace. NQF Level 5. Credits 5
US 117877 Perform One to one On the Job training. NQF Level 3. Credits 5.
UNIT 1: Leadership development for mentors
UNIT 2: Context and framework for mentoring and coaching and on-the-job training
UNIT 3: Orientate and prepare the learner for application of skills in workplace
UNIT 4: Implement, assess learner performance and review on-the-job training
At the end of the course and once having been found competent against the unit standards, the learner will be able to:
• Understand mentoring and coaching and its application in the workplace
• Orientate a learner into the application of their skills within a work context.
• Prepare for one-to-one training on the job;
• Conduct on the job training sessions;
• Guide the learner towards competent application of their skills within a workplace context.
• Assess and monitor and report on learners performance and progress in a workplace context:
• Review your facilitation and training processes
Phase 2: On-site consulting support and monitoring
The purpose of this phase is to assist companies with the development and implementation of their mentorship strategy and to support mentors in their mentoring and coaching sessions. It includes meeting with executive managers and the trained mentors to ensure that the mentorship process is implemented and integrated into the ongoing day to day business of the organisation. At the end of this phase all companies and mentors will be encouraged to come together to share learnings and best practice.
