Developing supervisors' technical knowledge and skills is important. This is, however, only the ‘ears of the hippopotamus’. Supervisors’ ability to apply the knowledge and skills back in the workplace is determined not only by the actual knowledge and skills they gain but also by the extent to which certain underpinning characteristics are in place.
In Free To Grow's experience of training more than 60 000 employees since 1996, these characteristics are often not adequately developed on supervisory level.
Soar! is a 4 day programme designed to create the climate and provide the tools to help supervisors develop a positive mindset about themselves, others, their work and their organization.
The programme has Free To Grow's tried and tested 'inside-out' approach and starts by developing a positive self-concept, strengthening the internal locus of control and growing a sense of ownership.
It then continues to explore today's world of work and what this requires of them as employees and as leaders. Supervisors develop a better understanding of the organisation and understand where they and their division fit into the bigger picture. This creates a positive connection between them and the organisation and strengthens the desire to make a positive contribution.
Lastly, the programme focuses on developing the mindset and behaviours required to work effectively with other people - their peers, teams and seniors, a critical element in supervisory success. With this foundation firmly in place, supervisors will be both able and motivated to fully utilize the more functional supervisory training they receive.
RESULTS TO BE EXPECTED IN THE ORGANISATION
Learners will:
Have greater self-esteem and more self-confidence
Be motivated to take greater personal responsibility for their growth and development and will therefore utilise further learning opportunities offered to them more fully. This will ensure that young leaders with potential are more easily identified so that they can be targeted for further development, growing the quality of the leadership in your organisation.
Have a much clearer understanding of their role in the organisation and be motivated to make a more positive contribution themselves, and also lead their teams more purposefully.
Develop the skills to build and maintain productive relationships in their teams and with their seniors, positively affecting the work climate in the organisation.
