A detailed workshop plan will be provided to the construction company which includes the following learning outcomes:
• Demonstrate an understanding of the procedure and techniques involved in counselling and testing for STI’s and HIV/AIDS
• Explain the nature, transmission and prevention of sexually transmitted infections including HIV/AIDS, including mother to child transmission
• Describe the symptoms and phases in the development of AIDS
• Describe HIV testing and the role of the counsellor
• Describe the lifestyle practices which increase the “well” stage of the disease
• Describe the means to cope and deal with sexually transmitted infections including HIV/AIDS.
• Describe the human rights of individuals living with HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections
• Identify factors in the community and workplace which influence attitudes toward HIV and AIDS.
• Describe practices which reduce or prevent the risk of infection
The facilitators with the assistance of the on-site foremen will identify a suitable awareness champion. This person will be responsible for condom and pamphlet distribution on site. At each site visit the awareness champion will be supported. Call the Rain cc will provide a monthly report of the site visit to the company contracted to do the Public Works contract. A list of recourses for employees affected by and infected with HIV will be distributed to listeners. At the end of each workshop (learning) the learner will be provided with 25 question tick sheet. The knowledge of the employee group will be assessed and reported against, in the final report to the contractor. In cases where the public works video can not be used facilitators will make use of the One Bokkie Story© technique to encourage behavioural change.
