At the end of this learning the learner will be able to:
• TB and HIV/AIDS.
• Demonstrate skills and techniques required of an HIV counsellor.
• Respond to queries about HIV and AIDS.
• Explain the functions and scope of practice of a counsellor
• Set up a counselling environment
• Explain the principles and processes of counselling
• Explain the role of values in human behaviour and counselling
• Develop a client ARV treatment plan.
• Explain the importance of the ARV treatment plan to the client.
• Provide guidance and support to the client in relation to the ARV treatment plan.
• Provide basic information about tuberculosis to community members of similar cultural background and mother tongue and to facilitate treatment compliance for the person who has tuberculosis
• Increase community awareness and knowledge of STI’s and HIV/AIDS in order to assist community members to make more informed decisions about their lives.
• Increase community awareness, knowledge and support of all possible means of prevention of HIV/Aids
• Understand the impact of STIs and HIV/AIDS on vulnerable groups within the community.
• Demonstrate an understanding of treatment, Care and Support of HIV-positive people
• Promote community discussion of the rights of HIV-positive people and people living with AIDS.
• Explain how relationships are affected by HIV and AIDS
