Businesses today are expected to deliver on time and to world class standards.  It is therefore vital for project managers to have a good grasp of how to manage a project and how to lead a team of diverse individuals.

Project managers are often appointed with the minimum amount of training and support.  Added to this, they have to interact with managers who resist having their team members allocated to projects.  As deadlines and demands increase, the project manager starts losing control of the project, the people and the end objective.

COURSE OBJECTIVE

To give learners an understanding of project management and the skills needed to manage and lead the project team.

COURSE CONTENT

 Introduction, history and overview to project management.

 Understanding Prime Constraints and the definition of the project’s objectives.

• Understanding the differences between ordinary management and project management
• Identifying and evaluating risks.
• Project Planning – project life cycle, structure and scope, operational parameters.
• The Team – assessing people’s maturity levels and skill levels.
• Activities and tasks and breaking the project down to the lowest deliverable.
• Post Project Evaluation – what to evaluate and how to carry it out.

INDIVIDUAL LEARNING OUTCOMES - ALIGNED TO SPECIFIC OUTCOMES

At the conclusion of this course, learners will be able to:

 Understand the project planning process.

 Conduct a pre-evaluation of the project and identify risk areas.

• Scope a Project.

Assess individuals in the team and how they will complement the team.

• Understand the importance of planning the project correctly and tracking its progress to achieve the end objective on time.

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA AND METHODOLOGY

• Pre and post Module assessments which measure individual knowledge levels.
• Participation in class discussions and exercises
• On course completion of a Portfolio of Evidence
• Submission of a post course work-related written assignment which assess the individual’s grasp of the project management process and their ability to implement this in the workplace

ENTRY LEVEL: Strictly Level 4/Grade 12/Matric and Basic computer literacy

Course is conducted in English - Grade 12 level.
