Diploma in investment analysis and portfolio management

Introduction
The Diploma in Investment Analysis and Portfolio Management is aimed at professionals currently in the market wanting to expand their theoretical knowledge base, as well as individuals with other qualifications or experience wanting to enter the financial markets.
Duration
The Diploma is a two year programme running from February in year one to the end of November in year two. Lectures will be presented after hours (once per week) as per timetable, this amount to a total of 36 contact sessions of 3 hours each. Students will also be required to construct and manage a simulated investment portfolio in year two.
Course Content
The diploma course will cover seven modules plus a simulated investment portfolio. See below for more information on the content of each module.
Certification
Successful candidates will obtain a Diploma from the University of Johannesburg at the end of the second year.
Evaluation
One test plus one exam will be written per module according to a set timetable. Learners will also be evaluated on the construction and management of their simulated investment portfolio.
Admission requirements
Minimum Matric plus one of the following:
- Certificate in Financial Markets (CFM) or relevant qualification; or
- Minimum of 2-3 years financial market experience deemed relevant by the department.
Applicants will be subjected to a selection process.
Admission
Due to group dynamics, only a limited number of students can be accommodated on a first-come, first-served basis – please apply timeously.
Fees
- The fees for 2010 will be approximately R22 000¹ for two years (excluding textbooks) half of which is payable at registration.
- Applications close on the 30 November 2009.

All candidates are required to complete a Departmental application form as well as a University application form.
