The purpose of the Team Leader Management qualification is intended to empower learners to acquire knowledge, skills, attitudes and values required to operate confidently as junior managers in the South African community, and to respond to the challenges of the economic environment and changing world of work.
The National Certificate in Management: Level 3 is intended for personnel already employed and other learners who intend to follow a career in management.
These positions include, but are not limited to, team leaders, supervisors, first line managers and foreman, where an employer has other employees reporting to him/her.
Below are the 6 modules that highlight the unit standard clusters and a brief of what each cluster addresses. The learnership/qualification is presented 4 days per module over a period of agreed time that suits each learner.
Module 1: Management Functions (20 credits)
This module addresses the management
functions and structure of the organisation.
Module 2: The Role of the Team Leader (16 credits)
This module focuses on the individual, team, leader’s roles, application of knowledge to enhance performance and relationship within general management.
Module 3: Team Leader Skills-Personal (Micro) Perspective (29 credits)
This module focuses on the analysis of the current affairs, interpretation and their impact on business in order to give the supervisor a broad perspective of the field in which he/she operates.
Module 4: Team Leader Skills-Department (Meso) Perspective
(16 credits)This module develops the specific skills that a supervisor needs, such as record keeping, time management conduct formal meetings, understanding conflict management and motivating a team.
Module 5: Numeracy, Financial Aspects and
Problem Solving (21 credits)
This module applies basic knowledge of maths and numeracy for use in business and personal finance calculations by a supervisor.
Module 6: Team Leader Skills-Plant/Business (Mega) Perspective
(19 credits)
This module focuses on situational interpretation, writing skills, use of appropriate language and the management of HIV/AIDS in the workplace needed by a supervisor in his/her job.
Please note that the above modules can be done as a full qualification or a company could select modules based on need.
