The Congress of South African Students (COSAS) has threatened to shutdown private schools. This comes as the reopening of public schools was postponed by the Department of Basic Education.

Covid-19 vaccine

Moderna has claimed that its Covid-19 vaccine is effective against the variants discovered in South Africa and the United Kingdom.

The government has been working on a Covid-19 vaccination plan, with the hopes of producing the vaccine locally. In a media address on Monday Morning, Minister Blade Nzimande gave updates about the progress that the Department of Science has been making with the vaccine.

The Basic Education Department has announced that it will be delaying the reopening of schools. The department said it made this decision in an effort to save lives. 

Schools are expected to open on the 27th of January, but there are fears that the Department of Basic Education has not done enough to prepare schools.
