Overview:

This qualification specifies the key skills, knowledge and values required to access engineering and manufacturing qualifications in the Further Education and Training Band.

 

It provides learners who have no formal qualification with an opportunity for assessment to • Recognise prior learning.

  • Identify gaps, and
  • Structure learning programmes to close those gaps.

 

The learning required for these learners would be what is typically included in ABET learning programmes.

 

Track Geotechnology Course

The Track Geotechnology Course  provides you with a refresher and overview of geology, track loading and the fundamentals of soil mechanics as applicable in railway engineering, with specific reference to aspects of earthworks, subgrade, ballast and drainage. As railway engineer or technologist, this course will enable you to apply a sound working knowledge of soil fundamentals and its multilayered track substructure to the construction and maintenance of an operational railway track.

The Advanced Programme in Shopping Centre Leadership is a progression from the course in Shopping Centre Management.

Open Pit Mine Planning and Design

This short course covers the basics and key elements of Open Pit Mine Planning and Design starting at the geological resource model, through to the reserve statement and including all aspects of the value chain. This unique course enables you to learn the basic theory of open pit mine design and the application thereof, whilst having the chance to interact with experts in the field.

Course in Strata Control: Practical

Under the current Mine Health and Safety Act (1996) a competent person (Strata Control Officer) can assist a legally appointed rock engineer with his/her underground duties under the guidance of the rock engineer.  The modules covered within this programme will assist candidates writing the examination. The programme will be a preparation programme covering the written components thereof as well as the final practical assessment.  The modules cover the theory for all metalliferous mining.

Powertrain Fundamentals

This course covers the basic operation of the powertrain system and its operating components. Course delegates will gain an in-depth knowledge of the powertrain for troubleshooting purposes.

 

What are learning outcomes?

Maintenance of Earthmoving Equipment

This course covers the introduction to maintenance of earthmoving equipment machines. Delegates will be equipped with knowledge of the importance of carrying out maintenance on machines as stipulated in the manufacturer’s maintenance manual, and the correct procedures to follow while carrying out maintenance on the machines.
