CIMA endorses IIE learning programmes

Recently CIMA (The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants) signed an endorsement agreement with The Independent Institute of Education (IIE) which endorses its Diploma in Business Accounting, Bachelor of Commerce (Finance Stream), Higher Certificate in Bookkeeping and Diploma in Accounting and Financial Computing offered through Varsity College, College Campus and Rosebank College. This agreement with IIE is the first one of its kind for CIMA.

The endorsement of learning programmes by CIMA is an indication to the marketplace that a formal process has been undertaken to ensure that the programmes being offered are of a high quality and have met the criteria laid down by the professional body.

Says Zahra Cassim, Head of South Africa: "CIMA is dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in the provision of education and training, related to management accounting. In South Africa, CIMA strives to fulfil this vision by the endorsement of programmes developed by other subject matter experts.'

These learning programmes are also accredited by the Council on Higher Education (CHE) and the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET).

Under the provisions of the endorsement agreement, all students registering for the Diploma in Business Accounting, Bachelor of Commerce (Finance Stream), Higher Certificate in Bookkeeping and Diploma in Accounting and Financial Computing will simultaneously be registered with CIMA and will remain so until the completion of their qualification with the IIE.

Students who successfully complete the Diploma in Business Accounting can thereafter continue with the CIMA professional qualification at operational level; with a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance Stream) they commence with operational level and E2; with a Higher Certificate in Bookkeeping they can commence at CO1; and with a Diploma in Accounting and Financial Computing they commence at CO1and CO4.

This offers multiple other routes into the CIMA professional qualification for students who wish to become a professional management accountant.

Says Dr Felicity Coughlan, IIE director: "The IIE is South Africa?s largest, most accredited, registered private provider of higher education. Through our six brands and 22 campuses we offer more than 60 of the leading accredited higher education qualifications in fields as diverse as brand building, accounting, public relations, sport development and software development.'

The IIE has many respected and recognised higher education brands including Vega, Varsity College, Rosebank College, Design School Southern Africa (DSSA), Forbes Lever Baker and College Campus.

These brands have campuses across the country and qualifications offered on these campuses are directly linked to their mission and target student market. This means that students on each campus will be able to study with other students with similar interests and ambitions.
