Do at-risk employees have to go back to work?

Answer:

Note that an at-risk employee is someone who meets the following criteria:

  • They are above the age of 60 years, and
  • They have a pre-existing medical condition that places them at a higher risk of complications or death if infected with Covid-19. This includes heart disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease & cancer.

Businesses must take special measures to lower the risk of Covid-19 for vulnerable employees.

Employers can do this by identifying vulnerable employees and are encouraged, where possible, to enable vulnerable employees to work from home.

Also, as an effective way of minimising the number of workers in the workplace at a given time, isolate their workspace or place them on paid special leave if the above-mentioned options are unavailable.
