False Bay TVET College Open Day 2018

False Bay TVET College hosted its annual Open Day at each of their 5 campuses with a two day back to back programme.

Providing a qualitative experience, the campuses each prepared an experiential programme to give the learners a taste for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

Whether it was the smell of a burning car clutches in the motors workshop or the taste of sweet pancakes in the hospitality kitchens, learners were engaged and involved in practical learning experiences. These activities were supported by guided tours, exhibitions and presentations by the academic and student community of each of the campuses.

As part of a month long awareness campaign in alignment with Department of Higher Education and Training TVET Strategy, the College took an all-inclusive approach to engage its stakeholders. This included a public mall exhibition and a Principals’ Breakfast ahead of the Open Day and Parent Seminar.

Schools and NPO organisations with a youth development focus were bussed to their campus of choice. An estimated 1600 learners from 30 schools were hosted and a minimum of 350 parents attended the Saturday Seminar, which was coupled with 154 free learner career assessments.

Campus Head, Ms Mariaana Herne hosted a record number of learners this year. She utilised the platform to showcase the College students competing for a spot to represent the Western Cape in the World Skills Competition. Learners were able to witness the finer intricacies of hospitality and restaurant services and were able to find out more about the World Skills Competition. “TVET students compete in international competitions, it’s the commitment and motivation to strive for success.” said Herne.
