FTI launches Business Analysis programme, KZN

Faculty Training Institute (FTI), the foremost provider of Business Analysis training in South Africa, is now offering training courses this April in KZN that support the competencies of the emerging Business Analyst and Project Managers.

The Certificate Programme in Business Analysis comprises the theoretical component of FTI’s landmark Diploma in Business Analysis, and is the first step towards obtaining this Diploma.

"When we first launched the Certificate Programme last year to our Johannesburg and Cape Town clients it became an immediate success', says Steve Erlank, MD of FTI.

"More than 100 delegates from leading companies completed the inaugural Certificate programmes last year and our first round of courses in 2010 are at capacity. We will shortly be taking bookings for our KZN course commencing on the 17th of April.'

The certificate programme, which follows the same rich, intensive learning methodology as the Diploma, was originally launched to fill the growing needs of entry level business analysts who were not yet eligible for the Diploma, usually because they were not able to gain access to the workplace projects that the senior programme requires.

"However, we find that the shorter format also suits many experienced Business Analysts, who prefer to get the more theoretical coursework component out of the way before they submit their workplace assignments', says Erlank.

The certificate course, which takes 4 months part-time study, covers much of the content of the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge (BABOK®) and is compliant with version 2.0, released earlier this year.

Like the Diploma, the certificate is endorsed by the International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA®) and carries a CDU rating of 99 towards Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP®) certification.

Delegates are able to upgrade to the full Diploma by submitting their workplace assignments, attending a short upgrade programme, and sitting the final qualifying exam for the Diploma.

"The certificate programme is comparable to programmes offered by other providers around the world, although its unique structure and approach means that we have a very high skills transfer level' says Erlank.

"But apart from opening up a more appropriate skills development path for less experienced BA’s, the Certificate has allowed us to increase the standard and intensity of our Diploma programme to levels which are world class.'

The Diploma in Business Analysis, because of its intensive group-work format, requires a reasonably large class size to be viable, and is consequently difficult to offer outside of the major centres, although FTI has seen delegates commuting every week from outlying areas, with some delegates even coming in from KZN or Swaziland to do the course.

"We anticipate that the more portable model of the Certificate Programme in Business Analysis, which is already running exceptionally well in Cape Town and Johannesburg, will find equal favour with our more remote customer ', says Erlank.

FTI’s philosophy of growing knowledge professionals extends beyond business analysis. It also offers Diplomas for Testing Professionals and Project Managers, and its growing short course programme is attracting individuals from many other industries where high-order thinking and the ability to innovate and solve problems is prized.

In addition to the Certificate Programme in Business Analysis, FTI’s short courses on Analytical Thinking and Creative Problem Solving, Principles of Business Analysis and Project Management for Business People are now also available in KZN.

About Faculty Training Institute

Faculty Training Institute (FTI) is a private training company that specialised in offering world-class career-oriented training courses for professional knowledge workers, mainly in the corporate world.

Focusing on mid-career rather than entry-level training, FTI specialises in Project Management, Business Analysis, Systems Analysis, Technical Writing, IT Management, Enterprise Architecture, and Technical Writing Training. It offers a variety of training options, including public or in-house, part-time or full-time courses.

FTI was founded in 1989 by five experienced lecturers from the Department of Information Systems at the University of Cape Town, who perceived a gap between the technical or entry level training offered by most private training companies, and the longer degree programmes offered by tertiary institutions.

During the past 20 years FTI has expanded its successful product offerings from the initial two Diploma courses into growing range of diplomas and short courses that serve the career needs of corporate South Africa.

In October 2006 FTI was awarded Charter Endorsed Education Provider (EEP) status with the International Institute for Business Analysis (IIBA®). It is one of a handful of training organisations worldwide who have achieved this status.
