The Gauteng Department of Education is urging parents to submit their children’s grade 8 High School applications before the September 3 deadline. This deadline will mark the conclusion of the first phase of online applications that opened in August.
Edward Mosuwe, from the Gauteng Education Department, says the first phase of applications is important as all grade 7 learners in public schools were supposed to register so they can progress into grade 8.
Mosuwe says that as of yesterday, 121 595 of the 181 000 grade 7 learners have made applications on the system. He says “there are about 60 000 parents out there who have children in grade 7 in public schools who have not taken advantage of the first phase of the application and we are urging them to take note that the third of September is quickly coming to a close and therefore we expect them to apply”.
He says that the department has sorted out a number of glitches in the system. He says that some schools may not have uploaded the relevant data at the time and encourages parents to reapply on the websites.
He said, “We advise parents to go back because remember the information on the system for those that are in the public school is what schools have, so should it be that we have loaded on the system incomplete information the system would have kicked them out but we were able to resolve all”.
The second phase of online applications will open on 13 September 2021 and will close on 8 October 2021.
“Those that would not have applied will now be competing for spaces as well or will be applying in the same period with those that are now coming on the 8th that coming out of the public system and we encourage all parents to take note of this” concluded Mosuwe.
The 5 Step Application Process is as follows:
STEP 1: Verification of Parent/Guardian DetailsSTEP 2: Verification of Home Address DetailsSTEP 3: Verification of Learner DetailsSTEP 4: Apply to Max of 5 SchoolsSTEP 5: Upload Documents Within 7 Days
Applications can be completed online.
