The Department of Home Affairs has announced that operating hours will be extended to 6:30 PM until Friday, 08 April 2022.
Home Affairs offices are notorious for having long queues and for their system being ‘offline’. All of which makes it a nightmare for South Africans, permanent residents, and asylum seekers to obtain crucial documentation for their stay in the country.
On Friday last week, Home Affairs officers around the country shut down and many clients were not assisted. It is reported that a cable breakage caused the systems to go offline and resulted in a disruption to its services.
This prompted Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi to instruct all offices around the country to extend their operating hours on Monday 4 April 2022. This in the hope of assisting all clients who were unable to be helped the previous Friday.
The department said, “The Department of Home Affairs is extending operating hours until Friday, 08 April 2022, to deal with queues at offices following an increase in demand for services. During this period, offices will open until 18:30”.
