How Does SETA Work?

The Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA) function is to facilitate skills development by creating learning programmes such as learnerships, skills programmes and internships. This is done through providing grants to employers and training providers.

SETAs are also tasked with creating skills development plans in response to the skills needs in their sectors.

There are a total of 21 SETAs in South Africa.

Each one manages and creates learnerships, skills-based programmes and internships in and for its sector. Every industry and job in the country is covered by one of the 21 SETAs.

Here is a list of the current registered Skills Education Training Authorities (SETA) in the country:

1. Agricultural Sector Education Training Authority (AgriSETA)  
2. Banking Sector Education and Training Authority (BankSETA)
3. Construction Education and Training Authority (CetaSETA)
4. Chemical Industries Education and Training Authority (ChietaSETA)
5. Culture, Art, Tourism, Hospitality and Sport Sector Education and Training Authority (CATHS SETA)
6. Energy and Water Sector Education and Training Authority (EWSETA)
7. Education, Training and Development Practices Sector Education and Training Authority (ETDP SETA)
8. Fibre Processing & Manufacturing Sector Education and Training Authority (FP&MSETA)
9. Financial, Accounting, Management, Consulting and other Financial Services Sector Education and Training Authority (FASSET SETA)
10. Health & Welfare Sector Education and Training Authority (HWSETA)
11. Insurance Sector Education and Training Authority (InSETA)
12. Local Government Sector Education and Training Authority (LGSETA)
13. Manufacturing, Engineering and Related Services Sector Education and Training Authority (MerSETA)
14. Media, Information and Communication Technologies Sector Education and Training Authority (MictSETA)
15. Mining and Minerals Sector Education and Training Authority (MqaSETA)
16. Public Service Sector Education and Training Authority (PSETA)
17. Safety and Security Sector Education and Training Authority (SasSETA)

The training authority aims to contribute to South Africa's economy by upskilling the workforce. There are SETA vacancies available in different sectors, requiring different skill sets, qualifications and levels of experience. 

SETAs also offer bursaries and funding for businesses within the specific sectors.
