The Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA) function is to facilitate skills development by creating learning programmes such as learnerships, skills programmes and internships. This is done through providing grants to employers and training providers.
SETAs are also tasked with creating skills development plans in response to the skills needs in their sectors.
There are a total of 21 SETAs in South Africa.
Each one manages and creates learnerships, skills-based programmes and internships in and for its sector. Every industry and job in the country is covered by one of the 21 SETAs.

The training authority aims to contribute to South Africa's economy by upskilling the workforce. There are SETA vacancies available in different sectors, requiring different skill sets, qualifications and levels of experience.
SETAs also offer bursaries and funding for businesses within the specific sectors.
