Network provider, MTN has launched a new online school for learners across South Africa. The launch of the online school was announced on Thursday as part of a collaboration between MTN and the Department of Basic Education.
Aimed at providing learners in grades R-12 with access to a comprehensive digital curriculum, the MTN Online school is a free online portal catering to the needs of all learners, including Learners with Special Education Needs.
Through the portal, additional video lessons and extra tuition lessons will be available to learners in grades 10 to 12.
Learners making use of the portal can do so without buying data, as the platform is zero-rated. MTN SA CEO, Godfrey Motsa said the online school will give learners the ability to access quality teaching online. This, as Covid-19 created a greater need for learners to have access to online learning platforms, following the move from contact classes to online classes.
“We believe in the future of SA and the education of the future generation, which needs to accelerate its recovery from the economic and personal devastation of COVID-19 to embrace future opportunities made available through quality education and learning. The MTN Online School has been developed hand-in-glove with the Department of Basic Education and we are so proud to deliver this portal that will immediate start creating value, for South Africans,” Motsa said.
Learners in grades 10-12 can also look forward to receiving the following additional help:

Support to learners after-school, on weekends, during school holidays and dedicated lessons leading up to exams
A timetable to drive transparency and structure
Online tutoring services
Pre-assessments (test existing knowledge)
Pre-recorded lessons to watch
Tutoring sessions
Feedback questions to work through
Live sessions presented by a teacher, recapping of key concepts, focus on weak areas identified by assessments
Post assessments
Learner analysis reports

As part of the support that learners receive, they will also be able request help at any time, or to submit questions via the online platform or the WhatsApp chat line.
