Millions of South Africans have been inspired by the PhD awarded to Minister in Higher Education and Training, Naledi Pandor, for her academic efforts in the field of education.
Having received the qualification Pandor proves that you are never too old to learn.
"I received a PhD in education from the University of Pretoria this afternoon. Now there are two doctors in the house," she tweeted, referring to her daughter Aisha Pandor who received her own PhD in Human Genetics in 2012.
Pandor's research topic was "The contested meaning of transformation in higher education in post- apartheid South Africa".
The topic reflects her ongoing interest in education and transformation in the local context as she executes her role has higher education minister.
She was appointed as the Minister of Higher Education and Training on 27 February 2018.
Since her appointment she has been commended for her work in the ministry and her recent award underpins her passion for the education sector.
Pandor is said to hold a number of exemplary qualifications including a Master’s degree in Education policy and practice in multi-racial societies and another in Linguistics.
Thousands of congratulatory messages poured in on social media as people across the country shared in the celebrations.
She received well wishes from President Cyril Ramaphosa, Professor Thuli Madonsela and popular broadcaster Tim Modise amongst others.
