The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) was established in terms of the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (Act 56 of 1999). NSFAS supports access to, and success in, higher education and training for students from poor and working class families who would otherwise not be able to afford to study.

Who benefits from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme?

NSFAS has its own criteria to select people who are eligible or deserve to be funded. NSFAS only caters for South African citizen.

NSFAS helps needy students pay their registration fees, tuition fees, accommodation, grant them meal allowances and books allowance.

The fund has grown significantly over the past year with the additional management of teacher-education bursaries, FET-college bursaries, and social-work bursaries.
