Last week, the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (Nsfas) announced that it was now available via two new platforms.

The bursary scheme says Nsfas applicants will now also be to access their application updates through the new WhatsApp line and a USSD code.

Applicants are encouraged to add Nsfas on WhatsApp on 078 519 8006 or by dialling *120*67327 to track their application status.

In the past, applicants were only able to track the status of their application by logging onto their myNsfas accounts.

Online registration and enrolment at universities across the country opened as early as 6 January 2023 and are expected to close in mid-February.

To provide additional support to students during the registration period, the bursary scheme has deployed staff members to institutions across the country to assist with various funding-related issues.

This includes data exchange processes with institutions to ensure seamless data integration and the registration of students onto new Nsfas systems.

With just one day left, Nsfas has urged all prospective who haven’t yet applied for financial aid to submit their applications before the closing deadline on Tuesday, 31 January 2023.

Meanwhile, Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande confirmed that all Nsfas funded students would be registered by all institutions of higher learning without an upfront registration fee while they await their application results.

Nsfas has agreed with all our institutions to allow all confirmed Nsfas-funded students to register for the 2023 academic year. This arrangement also applies to all students who qualify under the Historic Debt Funds & Close Out Report.

The scheme will release application results for those who applied for funding for the first time and returning students on 6 February 2023, while the funded list for continuing students was released on 24 January 2023.
